“For you have been called to live in freedom, my brothers and sisters. But don’t use your freedom to satisfy your sinful nature. Instead, use your freedom to serve one another in love. For the whole law can be summed up in this one command: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’” – The Bible (Galatians 5:13-14)
Our church doesn’t want to just make our building look nice and only worry about the stuff that goes on inside it. We are a part of this community, this region, this state, this country, this world…and we want to make a difference in it! To do just that we have both local service opportunities and global service opportunities (sometimes called missions).
Local Service:
If you haven’t heard much about EACH before, let us fill you in. EACH stands for Everyone A Chance to Hear. It’s a movement of more than 500 churches and organizations that want to change the metro-Detroit region for the better. We’re sharing our story and Jesus’ story with others plus serving within our communities to make a difference in the lives of others. While we’ve always been strong supporters of local organizations who do great things, EACH has helped to bring to the forefront our desire to serve in and around our local communities.
Here is a list of some of the various opportunities where you could come alongside us to serve:
- Habitat For Humanity Build Projects: Our first project is set for July 9th in Auburn Hills, MI. Contact us for more info to help out with this great project.
- Troubadours of Joy: Love to sing? Want to bless the lives of those who aren’t able to leave home? The Troubadours of Joy “Christmas Carol” throughout the year – once a month on the 3rd Tuesday at 6:15pm. Would you like more info? Contact us.
- International Friends: This small group meets weekly on Tuesdays from 1pm-3pm to teach English As A Second Language classes and help international women assimilate to American ways thorough activities, answering questions, and occasional field trips. Child care is provided. Feel free to pass this information along to your international friends. Contact us to volunteer.
Global Service:
“The ends of the earth” means the same today as it did for those who first heard Jesus speak these words. We are called by Jesus to go to every corner of the earth to fulfill his mandate as recorded in Matthew 28:18-20. Cross of Christ takes that charge very seriously. What we’ve done is great, but where we’re going is even more exciting. So here’s some info on our upcoming Global Service project:
Haiti Mission: After the devastating earthquake in early 2010 this country is still trying to rebuild itself. This summer we will be sending two teams of people to serve in Haiti and help rebuild. Our teams will lead Vacation Bible School to spread the story of Christ to children, help with building and construction projects, and serve in any other way needed by our partner congregations in Haiti. This year’s team has been set, but you can still contribute prayers and money or items for the local hospital, orphanage, or Vacation Bible School efforts…or you can help sponsor a missionary.
