Our
Beliefs
The mission of Cross
of Christ Lutheran Church is first and foremost to connect all
people to Jesus Christ.
The sole basis of
our belief is the Bible, which is uniquely God-inspired, without
error, and the final authority on all matters of faith. The
Bible teaches that there is one God, eternally existing in three
persons – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit – each possessing all the
attributes of Deity (being God).
God created all
things, the universe, the earth, and all life but especially God
created humans to have fellowship with Him. We did until we
listened to Satan, the Devil who lied to Eve (the first woman)
and convinced her that God didn’t love her. Together with her
husband Adam, they sinned (broke God’s law) and ran away from
Him. As a result, all human beings have inherited sin from our
first parents and all of us are in need of God’s saving grace to
end our alienation from Him. Salvation (God’s ending of our
alienation) comes only through God’s action and not human
effort. God took the problem of our sin on Himself in the
person of His Only Son Jesus. God offers all human kind this
free gift, with no strings attached and no effort on our part.
We can take what He gives and be back in fellowship, or walk
away from it and continue our alienation.
Jesus, second person
of the trinity (a description of the persons of the One God),
lived a sinless life on earth and voluntarily paid for our sin
by dying on a cross in our place. By His death, all humanity
was forgiven their sin, but He does not force anyone to take His
gift, and many simply don’t want what He offers. Jesus gave His
church two gifts: Baptism which connects us to Jesus forgiveness
is for all people of all ages. The second gift is Jesus real
presence with His people through a meal of bread and wine called
The Lord’s Supper. In this second gift, Jesus has promised to
be present with His people, to strengthen, heal, and assure them
of His closeness. To those who believe that what He did was for
them, the relationship of love and peace with God is restored.
Jesus rose from the grave after He had been killed on the cross
and because of His self-giving sacrifice, is now the only
mediator between us and God, no other exists.
The Holy Spirit,
third person of the trinity, draws all people to believe in
Jesus and equips believers for personal growth and service to
the church. The church (the people who believe in Jesus) has
been given the role of telling the world about Jesus, honoring
and giving glory to God, and serving those in need. At the end
of all time when Jesus returns, all human kind will experience
bodily resurrection from the dead, and will be judge by whether
or not they believe in Jesus. Those who believe that Jesus died
to forgive them will enjoy eternal fellowship with God.
