Our
Story
On June 26,
1955, on the southeast corner of Franklin and Square Lake Roads,
our very own Pastor Emeritus Bill Grafe was the missionary that
founded Cross of Christ Lutheran Church. It is one of more than
350 congregations in Michigan that are part of the nearly three
million-member Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod (LCMS) in the
United States. (Find out more about
The Lutheran Church Missouri Synod.)
As the
church continued to grow, land was purchased at Lone Pine and
Telegraph Roads, where a new church was dedicated in 1962 and an
educational unit added in 1976. The "Light Center", providing
gym space for family recreation and special events, was
subsequently built and dedicated in 1996. Our latest addition
includes the expansion of the educational wing and a new
sanctuary, which was dedicated for worship on December 19, 1999.
Our Schantz organ was dedicated in June 2000 and the stained
glass, candles and cross were dedicated in 2003.
We
currently serve more than 400 families with diverse financial,
ethnic, and educational backgrounds.
