Upward Basketball and Cheerleading Program

Thank you for your interest in our Upward basketball and cheerleading program. 

The emphasis of the program is that “Every Child is a Winner”.  One goal of the program is to create a positive environment for children to experience basketball and cheerleading. The program will teach fundamental skills in addition to good sportsmanship. 

The program is for children in grades 1 – 4.  We are still working on league specifics, but in general the league will run from mid -January through mid -March.  You may contact the church office at 248-646-5886 or e-mail UpwardBasketball@bloomfieldcross.org for information.

You might be wondering what makes this program different than what is available through the local parks and recreation departments.  The answer is this program attempts to witness the Christian faith to the children.  Each week the children have the opportunity to earn stars for their uniforms by being able to recite short memory verses.  Also, as part of each week’s practice there is time set aside for a brief devotion.  Finally, at the half of each game there is a short object lesson shared with the players and fans. 

We are always looking for participants.  No previous experience is necessary. 

In addition, we also are in need of volunteers.  Some of the roles we have open and their associated time commitment follows: 

Coaches – one practice and one game a week for 8 weeks

Referees – various Saturday mornings over the 8 weeks

Greeters – various Saturday mornings over the 8 weeks

Administration – varies, depending on your availability.
