Sending Our Love…

Alaska Mission Project…

A number of people from Cross of Christ have traveled to Hoonah, Alaska, during the past several summers in conjunction with St. John Lutheran in Rochester, MI. The Alaskan Mission Project is a summer short-term mission trip that provides practical assistance, Vacation Bible School classes, and other support to the Tlingit people living in this island village. Most of the residents have a subsistence lifestyle. The children in this area are so poor that they begin lining up for lunch at 8 a.m. They have little care or parental supervision. Trip members had the opportunity to feed the bodies and nurture the souls of these precious children.

Haiti Mission Trip…

Members and friends of Cross of Christ have had the opportunity to provide construction assistance, VBS sessions, a limited medical mission, and children’s hospital visitations to the people of Haiti for a week at a time during the summer when conditions in the country have not threatened the safety of the trip members. Consideration is being given to sponsor a trip during the winter months in the future.

Individual requirements for those interested in being part of the Haiti trip team include: a valid passport, shots for tetanus and hepatitis a commitment to attend all pre-trip meetings, and financial sponsorship to cover the costs of the trip (approximately $1,700 in 2009).

Previous mission trips have elicited the following comments:

·  When I finally listened to God telling me to go on the Haiti Mission trip (even though I remained fearful of some aspects of the trip) I learned that God does use ordinary people to do powerful and amazing things.

·     ·  I felt His strength and the protection of angels while working in Haiti.

·  Helping needy people in tangible ways, sharing the promise  and hope for eternal life, while showing Christ's unconditional love for them was an unforgettable blessing for ME! I will never be the same. Our God is an awesome God.

If you cannot go, there are opportunities to be a: prayer partner missionary financial sponsor, pre-trip VBS craft organizer, or donor of supplies (vitamins, pain relievers, hygiene items).

Hurricane Katrina Relief Mission Trip… There is still a lot of work to be done on the gulf coast. What a better way is there to show our Christian love than to give of our time and talents to help with the Katrina relief efforts. This assistance is comprised of activities from cooking in the kitchen (to help feed other workers and staff), painting houses, tearing siding off homes, and rewiring a house to helping an individual move her belongings back to her house and everything in between. The days may be long, but the blessings you receive in return are very gratifying.  For more information click here.
